2025Sep18 -A Breathing Practice
Props: A chair (no arms or wheels), a folded blanket, a bolster or cushion
Tonight the students who joined me live were 1s and 3s out of 5. Two people were joining yoga for the first time, so this practice explored fundamentals for breathing that I would like all new students to experience. One student was also experiencing sciatic pain, so we did some movements to relieve pressure in the nerve space.
The first half of this practice is seated in a chair, and the second half is lying on the floor on our backs over a folded blanket.
We started with a seated meditation on the qualities of our breathing before exploring spinal shoulder movements that focus on the rib cage.
